End User Council At Storage Networking World

By John Stith

Storage Networking World (SNW) Spring 2006 is covering a lot of new ground. One area of discussion is going to be interoperability and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) End User Council (EUC) will attempt to explain the issues surrounding interoperability.

"Communication and understanding are linked throughout all EUC activities at SNW Spring," stated Wendy Betts, EUC Chair, and Manager, Distributed Systems Storage Management, Hewitt Associates.

"By focusing our survey, sessions, panels, and town-hall activities on key issues that IT professionals manage every day, our colleagues will have venues to articulate their real-world challenges and successes, and to hear and participate in discussions that address the concerns of business and IT in today's corporations."

At SNW Spring, EUC will be launching the third annual end user survey -- focused on "interoperability." This survey, developed by EUC members over the last three months, targets the questions IT professionals ask and are asked by management.

Questions will cover a range of topics such as how long does it take to implement a new technology, how much time are IT professionals spending on testing and certification, what questions they consider when making a storage purchase, and what is the value of an interoperable vs. a proprietary solution.

Survey results will be released at SNW Fall 2006, and used by the EUC to advise SNIA member companies on issues, challenges, and strategies related to more interoperable solutions.

The EUC's Voice of the End User sessions at SNW Spring 2006 will be expanded with new topics that reflect the challenges of IT management.

The SNIA End User Town Hall Meeting, hosted by the EUC, StorageNetworking.org, and the San Diego StorageNetworking.org User Group (SNUG), is open only to end users and provides a setting where they can discuss any and all topics of interest.

An Interoperability Town Hall Meeting will provide a forum where IT professionals are encouraged to air their visions and opinions on this important topic.
