AberdeenGroup research director Stacey Quandt points out that the solidDB open source storage engine will enable a smooth transition for customers looking for an alternative to Oracle's InnoDB.

As CNET says, MySQL database works with different storage engines, and it is developing one of its own as well.

SolidDB Storage Engine for MySQL will become available for testing on April 24. The source code itself is scheduled to become available in beta form this July, and the product will become generally available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
