08.08.08 Up And Coming Storage Companies By Doug Caverly The best part of a magazine is often the "upcoming" section. Instead of existing stuff that might be dull or concepts that will never be produced, this focuses on cool things that are just around the corner. And on that note, here are most of the firms Network World named the "10 data storage companies to watch." Atrato comes first alphabetically. A modern-looking website identifies its main interest as "the highest data access density available -- in a cost-effective storage solution," and since Atrato was founded in April 2004, it actually qualifies as the oldest business of the bunch.
Next we'll turn to 4Blox, which was founded a year later. This firm offers users the chance to "increase the performance of iSCSI-based SAN's through software." Fusion-io follows with a drive granting "the performance of an SAN in the palm of your hands." Nirvanix, a San Diego-based firm, specializes in "cloud storage for large files." Keeping things moving, we're on to Ocarina Networks, which in addition to sharing a name with a Zelda game, "reduces data footprint with the world's first file-aware storage optimization solution for online data." Parascale's up next, and Pliant Technology will finish our once-over of Jon Brodkin's list. The other three companies are getting skipped because little is known about them and that puts us more in the territory of unproven concepts. We wish all ten businesses well, though, and hope their products are interesting and useful to you. About the Author: Doug is a staff writer for WebProNews.
