HDDBOOST Combines SSD, HDD Advantages

By Doug Caverly

Enterprises need to store more information than the average individual. At the same time, business info often needs to be called up more quickly than, say, a random song or picture of your pet. SilverStone has attempted to recognize these facts by introducing a new product called the HDDBOOST.

HDDBOOST is designed to get plugged into a SSD (preferably one capable of storing at least 32 GB), a traditional HDD, and a motherboard. Then, the most frequently used processes and data will get copied from the HDD to the SSD, and the computer will learn to access the SDD whenever possible.

Under most circumstances, this should allow a user to see the faster access times characteristic of SSDs, while keeping the massive amount of data that HDDs can accommodate on hand at the same time. It's a best-of-both-worlds scenario.

The HDDBOOST's price doesn't do much to rain on this parade, either. It only costs around $50, depending on where you find it.

Availability used to be a factor - it was only for sale in Japan - but getting hold of one in the U.S. (and many other parts of the world) shouldn't be a problem anymore.
