Online storage service Box.net has announced it now provides organizations with a more social content management solution.

The new Box mixes traditional content management with elements of social software to better capture and centralize the collective knowledge of an organization, and make it available to dispersed teams.

"When people connect within a business, it's around content -- what they're working on," said Aaron Levie, CEO of Box.net.

"We're taking what we have - a secure, intuitive content management tool -- and enhancing and building upon that connection between people. Imagine being able to organize and discover business information not only by projects and folders, but by the editors and stakeholders of that content. This creates a powerful opportunity for people to be more efficient, productive, and connected."

New social, project management and team-focused features to the Box content management solution include:

A profile page for every employee that includes: Information about their role and current projects as well as contact information (email, phone number, and a picture).

Their latest activity: what content they've most recently edited, commented, or discussed.

Improved layout - Instead of just seeing folders and files, users now see the people sharing those same files. This visually changes the paradigm from one of a file manager to one of a team workspace.

Enhanced team workspace features: o Discussions - start a discussion with everyone in your shared workspace .

Bookmarks - add a website link, description and comments. Great for sharing online research findings.

Updates - view the latest activity across all the shared content and see instantly the newest comments, discussions, edits and uploaded documents.

Box is offered in a variety of packages and editions ranging from the free Lite version which offers basic functionality for people who have simple collaboration needs to the $15/month per user in the Business version.
