People who drive Toyotas sometimes drool over impractical Lamborghinis. People who just own a pistol or shotgun often find their heads turned by extreme assault rifles. And for you enterprise storage-minded individuals, there's now Axxana's Phoenix System.

The Phoenix System is being marketed as an "Enterprise Black Box." It's supposed to protect information in just about any situation. Power failures are no problem. Fires and floods don't pose a threat. Even earthquakes and terrorists aren't supposed to stop the Phoenix System from doing its job.

The System is, if you want specifics, designed to withstand "[u]p to 2000¼ F for an hour to be followed by 482¼ F for 6 hours," "40 G shock," "5000 lb of weight," "30 feet water pressure," or "[p]ierce force of 500 lb rod with cross-section of .04 in2 dropped from 10 ft height."

As for its actual storage-related functions, an official page explains, "The Axxana Phoenix System enables organizations to utilize any asynchronous replication solution of their choice and send data to a remote location, while at the same time, to locally protect a synchronous copy of the most recent write operations in a disaster proof, new generation ‘Enterprise Data Recorder.'"

Not bad, right? The Axxana Phoenix System still might not be as poster-worthy as other elite/luxury products - it sounds like a child-sized box weighing 436 pounds - but it'll be hard to beat in the realm of enterprise storage.
