IBM Introduces Enterprise Storage Smorgasbord

The people in charge of developing IBM's storage solutions may deserve a round of applause. IBM recently unveiled an impressive five new offerings that should help resolve all sorts of issues.

First up in terms of importance is perhaps the IBM Smart Business Storage Cloud. A press release explained that it's "a private cloud offering that utilizes low cost components in a true scale-out clustered model not offered by its competition." Which is a nice starting point.

Next is the IBM Information Archive. According to the same release, it "helps organizations address their complete information retention needs, including business, legal and regulatory, and enables organizations to leverage different tiers of storage, including disk and tape, with policy-based management that automatically moves less active information to more cost-effective storage systems."

Finally, there are three cloud consulting offerings with fairly self-explanatory names: Strategy and Change Services for Cloud Adoption, IBM Strategy and Change Services for Cloud Providers, and IBM Testing Services for Cloud.

IBM discussed these offerings without giving details like release dates or prices. Still, so long as they launch in the fairly near future and don't go into arm-and-a-leg territory, they're likely to help IBM make friends in the enterprise storage sector.
