Utilize Holiday Savings To Boost Your Storage
By Michael Marr Expert Author Article Date: 2010-11-29 Friday marked the transition into full blown holiday shopping across the United States. Dubbed Black Friday for its common push of businesses' bottom line from red into black (loss into profit), electronics are often the focus of deals that send groves of people out into the early morning hours battling for these good deals. As I perused through the mountain of sales papers prior to this once a year shopping fiasco, I was struck that the best deals I found were on external and portable storage. Although I wouldn't turn down a good deal on a 60 inch Hi-Def 3D TV, the deals that seemed the best value were found in things like micro-SD cards and external HDDs. Some of the deals I saw available on Black Friday included a 2 TB external HDD for $69, or less than 3.5 cents per gigabyte.. This is $30 less than what I payed for my 1 TB external (of the same model and brand) less than 6 months ago. For the same price, this retailer also had a 1 TB portable external available. Littered across a variety of retailers were single digit dollar 8 GB thumb drives. These little pieces of storage are always welcome in my stocking, and even 32 GB thumb drives were available for around $30. That's less than $1 per gig in an extremely portable format. However, deals at big box retailers often pale in comparison to the big online superstores. Today is Cyber Monday, and you should definitely invest in the time to check out the various equally impressive specials across the network of web retailers today. Although it may break some social rules about shopping for one's self during the holidays, the available price per gigabyte may be too appealing to resist. After all, we can't really rely on our mother-in-law to pick up that amazingly priced 2TB hard drive, now can we? Keep a look out for those Santa approved storage deals this holiday season!
