When utilizing USB devices, many overlook the security risks involving their use. The amount of malware which is found on USB devices has been increasing, and security has been in need of a boost. This is where Trend Micro enters. They have just released software which will help scan USB devices, and stop malicious files from being transferred.

The announcement came last week, and Trend Micro released more information surrounding the new platform. USB Security 2.0 can integrate with a wide array of devices, and supports Windows. The protection will scan for viruses, trojans, spyware, and worms. All of which are on the rise in terms of malware.

The security software will work just like other anti-viruses. When USB devices are connected to a PC, the program will scan for infections. It will then automatically clean, and remove all viruses and spyware in real time.

Here's a short list of features for USB Security 2.0:

- Real-time virus scan. Trend Micro USB Security offers real-time scans so that if a threat is detected, an alert screen will be displayed and the infected files will immediately be isolated.

- Auto-update on pattern files. Because of the changing nature of threats, Trend Micro USB Security automatically updates its pattern files. Manual updates are also an option.

- Reference of logs. The reference log keeps an interactive list of virus detection results where users can restore or delete any file on the quarantine list.

Trend Micro is most known for security over the internet, though they haven't ignored security over physical drives. Their announcement of the product is a reminder of how infected files on our storage devices are not only a danger to our systems, but ones in which we access on a daily basis. Whether it's at the office, or over shared networks.
