Seagate Announces New Enterprise Storage Products
By Doug Caverly Staff Writer Article Date: 2011-03-29 It's no secret that storage giant Seagate was a bit late to the SSD space, releasing its first products after other manufacturers had the chance to gain footholds. The company's catching up (and perhaps then some), though, announcing a handful of new enterprise storage solutions this month. Let's start with the SSD offerings. An official statement explained, "The Pulsar XT.2 is a 2.5-inch, SLC-based, native 6Gb/s SAS, up to 400GB enterprise SSD . . ." Then the Pulsar.2 SSD "is the first MLC-enabled, (up to 800GB) SSD from an enterprise HDD vendor delivering the price/performance, data integrity, and endurance needed for performance-hungry enterprise applications." What's more, even if something goes wrong, the Pulsar.2 SSD possesses the ability to detect and correct many data errors, which is impressive. Now let's touch on the HDD products. The Savvio 15K.3 and Savvio 10K.5 offer maximum capacities of 300GB and 900GB, respectively, while promising high performance and reliability. Next, for companies with much more data to store, there's the Constellation ES.2 HDD with a maximum capacity of a whopping 3TB. Yet this product isn't demanding or temperamental, as it isn't supposed to consume too much power or generate too much heat. Kurt Richarz, Seagate EVP of Product Line Management, summed up, "Seagate's new family of enterprise storage solutions meets the diverse storage needs of these high growth application environments, whether it's fast transactional database servers, bulk storage and archiving, or everything in between." All of the solutions should be available by the end of June at the latest. About the Author: Doug is a staff writer for WebProNews. Visit WebProNews for the latest eBusiness news. |
