Months Of Hard Drive Shortages Expected As A Result Of The Thai Floods
By Qushawn Clark Expert Author Article Date: 2011-10-26 It was already clear that the floods were going to have a profound affect on supply chains for various industries when the floods first started, but things may be worse than previously stated. PC parts manufacturers, especially companies that produce hard drives like Western Digital and Seagate have projected huge delays in the production and delivery of new hard drives from their factories in the country. This is part of a statement released by Western digital last week: "We suspended production in all of our Thailand facilities from the beginning of last week in order to protect our personnel, and to move as much equipment as possible to locations less likely to incur water damage. At this point, we are thankful that all our employees are safe, and we moved much of the equipment which had been situated on the ground floors to higher floors." Companies such as Apple, Toshiba, and Dell have been affected as well, and surely the list extends to the floor, as so many international technology corporations have manufacturing operations in Thailand. Hopefully things will turn out okay, and the people of Thailand can return to their normal lives. Visit http://www.cbsnews.com/ for more information about the crisis.
